"We're just a bit different, we're not a band that anyone could label ladrock"Today we welcome into the interview room Stu from The Flex
Who are The Flex?
We have Giles on vocals, me and Tom who share guitar and backing vocals, Rich on bass and Sam on drums.
So, how long have you been together and how did The Flex come about?
Well the others have been in various bands and have played together for a few years, I joined in November and since May we've been gigging as The Flex.
What do you think makes your music different to what is currently on offer at the moment?
We sound distinctly British, but we're not from the same mould as other guitar bands like Arctic Monkeys or bands from the typical Indie mould, but that's not to say that we don't like that kind of thing! We're just a bit different, we're not a band that anyone could label 'ladrock', there's a bit more sentiment and that in our lyrics than you'll find in a lot of other current British bands.
If you had to give some advice to someone wanting to find a band, what advice would you give them?
Be willing to dedicate yourself, possibly even travel, I have to drive about 50 minutes away for rehearsals and Giles has to drive a couple of hours. Main thing is to be serious about it, you have to put in a lot of effort to see it rewarded.
In your band there are 5 people, how hard is it to stick together without any fallings out or arguments? Do you let the gripes blow over?
Not too hard, we know which personalities gel the best in the band so for each of us there is another member to help calm things and keep us on the straight and narrow. We never really have any major conflicts, we have the odd argument and disagreement but all bands do, and that's probably a good thing, shows the passion of each member if anything and shows that they care and believe in what they're doing.
Where can you see yourselves going in the next 5 years? What is your ultimate goal?
Well we've just recorded a single with Greg Haver who's produced for bands like Manic Street Preachers, InMe, Super Furry Animals, and a whole load of other varied acts, so with that we hope to make a bit of ground and get some attention. It would be nice if by a few years time we were signed and had the freedom to record an album and tour it.
If people want to find out more about The Flex, where can they go to do so.
We're on Facebook at www.facebook.com/theflexofficial, Myspace at www.myspace.com/theflexofficial and we're working on getting a website live at www.theflexband.com. There's some tracks on those pages that people can stream and also a free download
Well thankyou very much for talking to us here at Fit4Talent, we wish you all the very best.
Thankyou very much for having me!
